General FAQs
Where do we meet?
Wherever the student feels most comfortable. In-person sessions often happen at quiet public locations such as local coffee shops. Zoom is a great option for in between.
What are your rates?
Hourly rate, with sliding scale options available. I accept Venmo, cash, and checks.
Do you only work with Massachusetts students?
Nope! I work with students across the U.S. through virtual meetings.
What makes a good college "fit"?
Fit is academic, emotional, geographic, and social. We dig deep into your interests, values, and preferences so you can picture yourself not just getting accepted but thriving and contributing to your campus in constructive ways.
How often do we meet?
It depends on your goals. Most sessions are 30 to 60 minutes, and students help set the agenda.
Do you offer packages?
I offer hourly sessions and one-time consultations. We begin with a free 15-20 minute conversation to ensure a good fit. The student must feel completely comfortable and ready to begin the work
What makes you different from other college coaches?
I’ve sat on both sides of the desk—as a high school counselor and a college dean. I know the college application review process very well. I believe in honesty, fit, and helping students picture their best future.
FAQs for High School Students & Parents
When should we start the college process?
The spring of their sophomore year isn’t too early to begin exploring interests and environments. Most students start working with me in the fall of their junior year.
Do you help with essays?
Yes. I focus on finding a student’s unique story and authentic voice, writing from the heart and standing out in the crowded applicant pool.
How involved are parents?
My focus is acutely on the student, but I will certainly maintain open communication with parents/guardians as needed.
Can you support students with learning differences?
Yes. I guide families on what documentation and resources to seek, and help students identify schools with strong support systems.
Do you help build the college list?
Yes. I provide insights that guide students in creating balanced lists reflecting their academic profile and personal values.
What if my student is undecided about a major?
Great! I love working with students who are exploring all of their options. And entering college undecided is actually a wise move for many individuals. Stay curious and open to possibilities.
Do you work with students applying to highly selective colleges?
Yes. I have experience in selective admissions and will always be honest about the realities of the process.
FAQs for College Transfer Students
How do I know if transferring is the right choice?
We unpack the why. If it’s mostly social, we may need to pause. If there’s a better academic or personal fit out there, we will craft a meaningful plan.
What materials do I need to transfer colleges?
Usually, a transcript, a faculty or staff recommendation, and a transfer application. I can walk you through each step. Transfer applications will vary from one institution to another.
Will transferring schools delay my graduation?
Not usually—but even if it does, it might be worth it. A good fit matters more than confining yourself to a four-year plan.
Can you help compare academic programs?
Yes. Every college has strengths. I help students figure out which ones matter most to them.
Will my credits transfer?
Most general courses will. Specialized seminars may not. I help students identify how to determine which courses will likely carry over for credit.
Does transferring schools look bad to grad schools or employers?
No. Most employers don’t ask. Grad schools may ask for context, but a well-articulated reason often strengthens your story.
FAQs for Students Returning to College After Time Away
Can I really go back to college after a break or dismissal?
Yes. Most schools have clear re-entry policies. I help students understand and prepare for that process.
What does a return to college plan look like?
It may include coursework, work experience, or health-related milestones. I help you map out a plan aligned with your school’s expectations.
Can you help with reentry paperwork and contacts?
Yes. I help identify the right contacts and guide you through communication and documentation.
What if I’m not ready to return yet?
We can explore meaningful alternatives—volunteering, job training, or employment—to help you stay engaged and move forward.
Will I be behind my peers?
You may graduate later than your original class, but that doesn’t mean you’re behind. Everyone's journey is different.
What support do you offer once I'm back?
Ongoing check-ins, goal setting, accountability, and coaching. I'm a guide on the sidelines as you rebuild.
Do you work with students on mental health leave?
Yes. While I’m not a therapist, I have significant college-level experience supporting students returning from mental health-related absences.
